Visit to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital
On Tuesday 21st February, a group of Year 11 pupils travelled to Manchester to present a cheque to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for £5,306 on behalf of the whole school. Funds were raised during Advent in memory of Dylan Crossey, who sadly passed away in October 2016.
Pupils and staff went to extraordinary lengths in order to raise money, organising sports competitions, raffles, cake sales and challenges. However, fundraising did not just stay in school – very generous donations were received from families and businesses from all around the area.
The visit to the hospital this week had a profound effect on the pupils, who were given a tour of the hospital facilities, including the A&E department, and the rooftop play area!
Our Advent fundraising was to support the hospital’s ‘One Big Toy’ appeal, which sought to raise money to transform a room on one of the wards into a multi-sensory room, to provide respite for children who have to spend long periods of time in a very clinical ward environment. Thanks to the efforts of our pupils and staff, the hospital now have sufficient funds in order to make this vision a reality and work begins on the multi-sensory room soon.
After a very upsetting time for our school community it has been great to pay tribute to a much-loved and dearly missed pupil in this way, and to support the extraordinary work carried out at this very special place.
