River Calder Trip
Year 11 Geographers visited the River Calder near Garstang to complete fieldwork for their GCSE Controlled Assessment. Pupils measured the width, depth, velocity, gradient and wetted perimeter of the channel at five locations along the course of the river.
The data will be used to calculate the cross sectional area of the channel so that the hydraulic radius can be found. The subsequent enquiry will investigate whether the hydraulic radius increases downstream as suggested by theoretical models.
