Liverpool History Trip
On Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th November the History department took 180 year 9 students on a field visit to Liverpool to find out about the city’s historical roots and involvement in the slave trade. They were able to find out about the people who made their fortunes from the slave trade and its impact on the city. Our students were fantastic and even the horrible wind and rains on Monday couldn’t dampen their spirits and other visitors expressed their admiration of our students and how hard they were working around the museum.
We also took in the fabulous Liverpool Museum on the quayside. There were lots of interesting exhibits which showed the history of the city and its football clubs and how they have progressed over the years. It was wonderful to see our students having fun singing along to famous music from the city’s history in the karaoke booth! They had a great time, donning Beatles wigs, playing inflatable guitars and singing at the top of their voices.
Finally, we made a quick stop at the beautiful Weeping Window art installation outside St George’s Hall. This sculpture is a collection of ceramic poppies produced as a tribute to those who died in the First World War. Our pupils were a credit to the school as they showed their respect to the fallen in the week of Remembrance.
It was a fantastic learning experience which our students greatly enjoyed.
