Uniform
Information
The school wants all pupils to appear smart and tidy. One of our tasks is to prepare young people for adult life and the world of work. We want all our pupils to take a pride in their appearance. Our uniform rules must be seen in the context of a school wanting to do the best for its pupils.

Hair – must be of one natural colour. Pupils must not have hair cut in an unacceptable extreme of fashion. Hair must be no shorter than a no. 2 cut. The Headteacher will ultimately make a judgement on what constitutes an ‘extreme’ hairstyle.
Jewellery – pupils with pierced ears may wear one pair of plain gold or silver studs in their ear lobes. Double earrings are not permitted. Earrings must be removed for PE. No other jewellery is allowed. Make-up and nail varnish are not allowed.
Bags – should be strong enough to protect books and big enough to hold an A4 file. Handbags are not allowed.
Graffiti – bags, pencil cases, exercise books etc., must have no graffiti on them.
School uniform is compulsory for all pupils at All Hallows. It is our experience that the tone of the school depends to a large extent upon school uniform. Pupils who resort to extremes of fashion or who repeatedly abuse the rules concerning school uniform will be subject to escalating sanctions.
PLEASE NOTE: THE SKIRT CAN ONLY BE BOUGHT FROM THE FOLLOWING SUPPLIERS. SKIRTS BOUGHT FROM ANY OTHER SUPPLIER ARE NOT PART OF OUR SCHOOL UNIFORM AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN SCHOOL.

- Black blazer with school badge
- Purple pleated tartan skirt – as bought from the above suppliers, no alternatives to pattern. To be worn mid knee cap.
- There is a girls black trouser option available from
Trutex online and ‘Justs’ in Penwortham. It is the Junior Girls twin pocket trouser, black (JGTN-BLK) or Senior Girls twin pocket trouser (GTN-BLK) Further details are available in this brochure - White Trutex blouse (with revers collar).
- Purple pullover – relevant size.
- Knee length white socks – no over-knee socks / Black 40 denier tights with the new skirt only.
- Shoes, plain black (low heels, as a general guide no higher than 1”).
- Trainers are to be worn only for PE.
- Outdoor coats/jackets to be worn rather than sweat shirts.
- Black blazer with school badge.
- Black trousers in plain material. Jeans, cotton material trousers and extremes of
fashion are not acceptable. - White shirt in plain material (no button-down pockets).
- School tie.
- Purple pullover in the relevant size.
- Plain black unbranded leather shoes.
- Trainers are to be worn only for PE.
- Plain dark socks.

PE kit should have a nametape in every item of clothing. All PE footwear should be marked inside.
We are mindful as a school of the cost of uniform and will offer assistance to families who need it. We have a good stock of spare and nearly new uniform in school. If you need any assistance with the purchase of uniform, please contact your child’s Learning Manager.
We have a small stock of spare uniform and shoes. If your child comes to school without an item of uniform or with non-compliant uniform, we will endeavor to find an appropriate replacement in order to avoid an escalation of sanctions.
Seasonal Changes
During periods of hot weather pupils may ask for permission to remove their blazers once they have arrived at a lesson. Blazers are optional from September until October half term and after the Easter break.
Non-Uniform Day Protocol
The charge for non-uniform days will be £1.50 payable to the form tutor (£2 including makeup).
The school has a non-uniform day every year and we have established certain ‘rules’ surrounding it. These were agreed with the school council.
This day gives us an opportunity to relax the uniform rules, but it is a normal school day in every other way. Those key ‘rules’ are as follows:
- This is a working day like any other and pupils must bring all necessary books and equipment to school.
- If pupils do not wish to wear non-uniform clothing, then they should come to school in full uniform, which some pupils might prefer.
- Clothing worn must be appropriate to our Catholic school. We do not anticipate problems in this area, but everyone must be willing to take responsibility for their appearance. On school trips in the past, like Castlerigg for example, we have had no problems and pupils have always dressed appropriately. For example, although small amounts of make-up (the donation is then £2) and jewellery are acceptable, dyed hair and bare midriffs are unacceptable. Football shirts are not appropriate. Any hats or hoods should be removed in lessons as a matter of courtesy.
- Although the school uniform rules are relaxed for the day, all other school rules apply as normal.
We want all non-uniform days to be successful – it is something the pupil council has been requesting for quite some time. If anyone does arrive to school not dressed appropriately, they are referred to a senior member of staff who will make a decision about whether or not to send them home.
