Enrichment Day
This year Enrichment at All Hallows followed the theme of British Values. Pupils had sessions throughout the day on Democracy, Tolerance, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect. The day started with a look at ‘Britishness’ which challenged stereotypes and considered identity and values.
Mufti Mohammed Patel, an English teacher and Head of Year 11 at Tauheedal Islamic Boys School spoke to Years 7 and 8 about Islam, his journey through his faith and life in Britain as a Muslim.
Rabbi Benjy Rickman, Head of Religious Studies at King David School in Manchester talked to Years 9 and 10 about Judaism, the similarities and differences between Judaism and Catholicism and a day in the life of a Jew.
Comments from pupils at the end of the day were extremely positive; from a year 8 pupil “the media makes Muslims out to be violent but I have learnt that Islam is a religion of peace” and year 9 pupil “I hadn’t realised there were so many similarities between different faiths”.
Other sessions involved pupils simulating a refugee activity, learning about the history of Democracy, designing their own coat of arms based on the values they choose to live by and discussing what it would be like to live in a lawless society.
A successful and enriching day to finish a busy term.
