Chairman’s Challenge
This year, the All Hallows Student Council have been very busy. Their focus has been on raising money for local charities.
In September, an agenda item on their meeting led to discussion about local charities being hit hard by the economic downturn. The pupils decided that they wanted to act and raise money for a local charity, so that they could see the input that their money made. The chosen charity was Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
After consultation across the year groups, it was decided to hold a Charity Movie Night for Year 7 and Year 8, led by some senior pupils. The Student Council set about arranging the whole evening themselves. It was a huge success, the movie was ‘Paddington’ and the highlight was the free pizza that was donated (after some gentle persuasion) by Papa John’s. Following the evening, Amy from Rosemere came into give an Assembly explaining how the money would help people in our local community. Members of the Student Council were her with a cheque for £150.
As a result of their charity work, the Student Council got through to the final of the Chairman’s Challenge. This is a competition run by the Chairman of Lancashire able to present County Council each year. It aims to promote Health and Wellbeing across Lancashire. The final took place at County Hall on 17th June and after a fantastic performance, our team came second, winning a silver award and £250. We aim to keep some of the money to fund future projects, as well as donating some to Rosemere.
Finally, a special mention must go to Beth Woods in Year 11, who not only masterminded the project, but went onto raise a further £500 for Rosemere by doing a raffle and a sponsored walk. Well done Beth!
