Science Senior Medic Workshop
65 Science pupils in Year 10 & 11 have recently taken part in the ‘Senior Medic Workshop’ hosted by ‘Operating Theatre Live’.
The workshop enabled pupil to experience areas of Science that are not readily available in the normal classroom environment. The workshop was a medical based course set in our Arts Theatre converted into a mobile operating theatre. Pupils were issued with ‘scrubs’ and took on the role of a surgeon for the day. Over the course of the day students dissected real anatomical specimens that were built into real life ‘synths’, developing a comprehensive understanding of how the human body works.
Activities included, Heart Transplants, Eye Dissections, Amputations, Preparing Anaesthetics along with many other activities linked to the new GCSE specification.
Pupils in Year 9 & 10 are already looking forward to next year’s event.
